CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - Led by Josh Gelet, who placed 48th out of 131 bowlers in the All Event Standings, the Westmoreland County Community College men's bowling team finished 19th at the NJCAA Championships over the weekend, hosted by Erie Community College.
Gelet had a big start to the weekend in doubles play, as he rolled 574 and teaming with Zach Hartmann (442), they scored 1016 to place 29th out of 62 teams. A big score was also posted by Trevor Nelson in doubles, as he scored his high for the tournament with a 479. Gelet and Hartmann were the top two scorers in singles competition as well, with Gelet rolling 447 and Hartmann coming in at 446 for the Wolfpack.
When team play started, the top score was recorded by Hartmann, who scored 533 in his final series. Gelet rolled 528 in his first series of team play, while Noah Svidron nearly matched him with a 527 in his first series. In addition to those two scores in the opening series, Chris Gaia scored 458 as well in his first series of team play.
After Baker play was completed Saturday, the Wolfpack scored 10,174 to place 19th overall at the Championships. Gelet was the top scorer for the weekend, as he finished with 1,977 pins to rank 48th overall. Hartmann was next for Westmoreland by finishing 66th, while Svidron was 87th, Nelson was 89th and Gaia was 99th at the national championships.
