Wolfpack Downed by Garrett in Opening DH
YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - The Westmoreland County Community College baseball team took the field for the first time in 365 days Saturday afternoon, but dropped both ends of a season-opening doubleheader to Garrett College by scores of 9-2 and 13-1 (6 innings).
Garrett took the lead with a run in the first and added three in the third and two in the fourth before adding more late to pull away for the win. The Wolfpack bats were held in check in the first game, managing a double by Noah Sweeney and singles by Matt Wicker and Sebastien Nelson, whose base hit drove in a run. Those three hits were the only in the game for Westmoreland.
On the hill to start the opener for the Wolfpack was Damian Serralta, who pitched three innings and struck out five.
The Lakers jumped in front in game two as well with three runs in the second inning and added on to their lead until plating five runs in the sixth inning to clinch the win. The lone Wolfpack run came in the fifth inning when a wild pitch brought home Blake Fairman.
Westmoreland did manage eight hits in the second game, including two by Noah Sweeney and a double by Dom Koch. Jared Wagner started for the Wolfpack in the nightcap and struck out five in 2 1/3 innings of work.
The Wolfpack are back on the field Sunday afternoon in a road doubleheader at Allegany (Md.), with first pitch scheduled for 12 pm.
