Wolfpack Fall in Late Innings
YOUNGWOOD, Pa – The Westmoreland County Community College Baseball team lost two close road games against CCBC Catonsville Saturday.
In game one, the Wolfpack jumped on top with three runs in the top of the first inning thanks to some wild pitches by Catonsville's pitching and 2-run home run by Westmoreland catcher Nick Fuentes. Catonsville answered with one run after an error, but the inning ends on a strike-em-out throw-em-out combo from Logan Gustafson on the mound and Fuentes from behind the dish.
In the second inning, Noah Sweeney doubled in a run and Catonsville left the bases loaded, as Westmoreland took a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd inning. Reid Amundson and Blake Fairman added to the lead with RBIs and Fairman stole home as part of a double steal on the base paths. Sweeney and Matt Wicker also add with RBI singles in the 3rd inning to extend the lead to 9-1.
Catonsville came back with five runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and six more in the 5th inning to take the lead over Westmoreland 12-9. The Wolfpack tacked on one run from an RBI fielder's choice by Fairman but in the bottom of the 6th inning the Cardinals gained that run back to lead 13-10. In the final frame, Tommy Kegerreis hit an RBI single but Westmoreland stranded the tying run on second base as Catonsville scrapped by with a 13-11 win.
Sweeney collected three hits in five at bats with two RBIs, while Kegerreis went 3-for-5, Fuentes hit his first home run of the year and had 2 RBIs and Fairman was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
