Wolfpack Explode with Runs in Sweep
YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - The Westmoreland County Community College baseball team traveled to Kent State Tuscarawas Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Golden Eagles 12-2 in game one through five innings and 19-8 in game two.
In the opener, the Wolfpack rode a strong pitching performance from Jared Wagner. The first-year right-hander threw 5 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out four Golden Eagles. The first Kent State run came in the second inning off an error to cut Westmoreland's lead to 3-1.
The Wolfpack erupted in the third inning scoring nine runs thanks to eight hits and an error bringing the lead to 12-1. Kent State scored one more run in the bottom of the third but failed to escape the mercy rule and the game finished after only five innings. Westmoreland collected 13 hits in five innings while Wagner allowed only six.
In the second game of the double header, Westmoreland scored five in the first and two in the second and third giving the Wolfpack a 9-0 leading heading into the bottom of the third. Kent State answered back with eight runs in the third and fourth innings to bring the Wolfpacks lead to one run. Westmoreland answered back with one in the fifth and then exploded with another nine-run inning in the seventh. The Wolfpack swept the Golden Eagles with a 19-8 win in game two.
Tommy Kegerreis went 8-for-10 on the day, including two doubles and a homer with five RBIs. Matt Wicker went 6-for-7 with three doubles over the two games and hitting in five RBIs as well. Dom Koch went yard while batting .500 on the day with six RBIs. Other notable performers were Reid Amundson and Matt Henderson, who both went 3-for-4 and Henderson also had four RBIs.
The Wolfpack is back in action again on Wednesday, April 7 as they host Allegany College of Maryland in a double header starting at noon
