Coach Macha Inducted into Pitt Hall of Fame
Baseball volunteer assistant coach Ken Macha was recently inducted into the University of Pittsburgh Athletic Hall of Fame. He is the first Pitt baseball team member to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Ken graduated from Gateway High school, and walked onto the Pitt baseball team in 1968. In 1971 Ken was named a Sporting News All American Honorable Mention. Ken was then drafted by his home town team, the Pittsburgh Pirates. He spent 6 years in the majors as a player, 3 of which were with the Pirates. He also spent time playing for the Expos and Blue Jays, before ending his career playing in Japan.
He was first hired as a coach by the Expos, and would later go on to manage the Oakland A's and the Milwaukee Brewers. Ken led the A's to playoff appearances in 2003 and 2006. Ken is the second winningest manager in A's history with a win loss record of 368 and 280. He has a career record of 525 and 447 as a MLB manager.
Ken has now spent the last 10 years as a volunteer assistant coach here at Westmoreland. He has given back so much to the game as a mentor to so many young men that have come through the program.
Congratulations to Ken on this prestigious honor.
