Westmoreland Battles, But Falls to PG
Westmoreland County Community College put together one of its strongest offensive performances of the season, but a hot-shooting Prince George's Community College squad proved too much as the Wolfpack fell 102–89 on Saturday afternoon in Youngwood.
Prince George's (9–2) showcased its depth and efficiency, shooting 52.7% from the field and 50% from three while placing six players in double figures. The Owls built a 46–34 halftime advantage and maintained control despite multiple second-half pushes from the Wolfpack.
Westmoreland (2–7) delivered a resilient offensive showing of its own, scoring 55 points after the break and knocking down 12 threes at a 46.2% clip. Sophomore guard Ryan Burkart led all scorers with 26 points, adding eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals in a standout all-around effort. Julian Thompson continued his dominant interior play with a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double, including seven offensive boards.
Freshman guard Tommy Davis added 15 points, and Tyler Anthony knocked down four threes on his way to 12 points.
Despite trailing by as many as 23 points, with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the game, Westmoreland trimmed the deficit to 6 points with roughly 9 minutes left in the game. The wolfpack's run was a complete team effort as multiple players made big plays. The game stayed close but Westmoreland rally fell short.
Westmoreland out rebounded Prince George's 37–32 and generated 21 assists on 29 field goals, but 22 turnovers proved costly against a team that thrives on pace and pressure.
The Wolfpack return to action next week looking to build on their improved offensive execution and continued development across the rotation as they travel to Baltimore County to take on CCBC Catonsville Cardinals in a region 20 contest.
