Men's Bowling Move on to Nationals
Friday afternoon saw the Westmoreland County community college men's and women's bowling team play host for the regional invitational. This is where the teams will try and qualify for the NCAA national championships in Lansing Michigan.
The event kicked off with the men's team, taking part in the doubles event. Sophomores Andrew Marcej and Luke Sunny teamed up for 1165 total pins on their way to winning the doubles event. Larry Weaver and Jake Sincak placed second overall with the total of 1089 total pins for the event. Ian Sunny had the high game in the doubles event with a 245 game and 627 total pins for doubles.
After lunch, they came back with the singles event, which saw Luke Sunny place first overall with a 693 series (200, 276, 217). Second place was Jake Sincak with a 679 series. His high game came in game three was a 276, which matched Luke Sonny's 276 in game two. Hunter Cook placed third with 586 total pins through the three games. Larry Weaver replaced fourth overall with a 552, and Andrew Marcej placed seventh with a 496 series.
When it came to the men's all events standings Westmoreland took the top three spots with Luke Sunny in first place with 1320, which was a 220 average over the six games. Jake Sincak placed second with a 209 average and 1258 total pins, and Hunter cook place third with 1213 total pins. Larry Weaver and Andrew Marcej placed fifth and sixth with 1062 and 1034 total pins in the event.
On the women's side, there was no doubles event, the women bowled six single games, 3 during "doubles", and three for singles. In the singles event freshman Rachel Beaman had a 210 game two, which propelled her to 516 total pins to win singles. Combined with her three games in doubles where she totaled 501 she amassed 1017 total pins on her way to an all events win as well. She averaged 169.5 over her six games.
Moving forward, the men's team will take part in the NJCA Bowling national championships starting on March 6 in Lansing, Michigan. Good luck to the men's team and congratulations to Rachel on an outstanding freshman season.
