YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - The Westmoreland County Community College volleyball team began its 2021 spring season Monday night by hosting Potomac State for a pair of matches and the Catamounts came away with a pair of 3-0 wins.
The visitors opened the first match with 25-8, 25-6 wins, but the Wolfpack took the third set down to the wire. The lead changed hands nine times in the set and Westmoreland took their last lead at 18-17. Potomac responded with a string of six consecutive points to go in front 23-18. A run of three straight points by the Wolfpack off the serves of Samantha Duncan trimmed the deficit to 23-21, but Potomac scored the final two points to take the set and the first match.
Duncan finished the match with eight assists, as well as two aces, while the top hitter in the match was Jessica Williams. In addition to a team-high six kills, Williams also had six digs and five solo blocks. Pacing the effort in the back row was Morgan Brown with nine digs.
The second match belonged to Potomac State from the start, as they won 25-5, 25-11, 25-5. Haley Maines had a pair of kills, while Williams registered two solo blocks and Brown brought up four digs.
The Wolfpack are back on the court this coming Friday with a road match at Hocking College in Ohio, with the match set to begin at 6 pm.
