Men's and Women's Cross Country Set Multiple PR's at Gettysburg
The course and weather were in perfect condition Saturday as the Westmoreland County Community College men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Gettysburg Invitational. This was the first time that Westmoreland ever took part in this event. The field included 5 other NJCAA Region 20 teams along with 38 other teams from the NCAA, USCAA, and NAIA. With the course and the field set, the Wolfpack combined for 6 out of 6 runners setting new personal best's, combined for over 39 minutes of PR's.
The men's team was the first team up, and it saw three members of the men's team take part in the 8k event. Adam Halinka set a 20 second PR, over his time from regionals last fall, finishing with a time of 34:22 in 292nd place. Ben Metts set a 12 minute 22 second PR completing the course in a time of 41:57. Finishing in 313th place was freshman Garrett Hosey who broke his PR by 9 minutes and 50 seconds.
The women's team saw the same kind of results as the men's team did. Competing at the 6k distance Sophomore Lexie Kepple broke through, beating her best 6k time by 4 minutes and 31 seconds, finishing at 29:09. Her time went down as the 13th fastest 6k in program history. Eva Licht was next finishing in a time of 41:57, this was 3 minutes and 23 seconds faster than her previous best two weeks ago the the UPG Invite. Avery Bailey had a huge PR, besting her previous PR by 9 minutes 35 seconds, crossing the line with a time of 37:40.
The Wolfpack will now enter the postseason, as they prepare to host the NJCAA Region 20/WPCC Conference Championships this Saturday at 11am for the men's 8k, and the women's 5k following at noon.
