Cross Country Host the Region 20 Championships
Saturday afternoon the Westmoreland County Community College cross country teams played hosted to the NJCAA Region 20/WPCC Cross Country Championships. The weather was perfect, and the course was in great shape to see some outstanding times.
The men's team was up first to tackle the challenging 8k course here on Westmoreland's Youngwood campus. Only two members of the men's team took part in the event. For the final time in his Wolfpack career, sophomore Adam Halinka was Westmoreland's top finisher. Adam placed 29th overall, finishing with a time of 36:35. Freshman Garrett Hosey placed 31st overall in a time of 49:23. Freshman Jesse Gresh placed first place overall for Carroll Community College in a time of 27:35. While Potomac State's men's team took home the team title with 38 points.
The women's team then took on their 5k course for the final time. sophomore Kylie Klinger, like Halinka, finished as the Wolfapcks top finisher in each of their races over their two years. Klinger placed 16th overall in a time of 24:25. Lexie Kepple followed closely behind in 18th place with a finishing time of 24:42. Eva Lichty ended her Wolfpack career with a PR, finishing in a time of 27:28. Avery Bailey rounded out he women's team placing 28th in a time of 33:43. Cassidy Cumberledge from Potomac state was the first finisher in a time of 20:19. Potomac state completed the double, with the women's team victory as well.
Klinger and Kepple were crowned as WPCC Conference women's champion and runner up, and Adam Halinka was the men's conference champion as well.
"This group of sophomores will be greatly missed," Said head coach Patrick Comer. "Kylie is tied for the second most top ten finishes in school history with 7. Lexie has the 13th fastest 6k time with her time from Gettysburg this year, and Adam was the top men's team finisher in every race for the last two years," added Comer.
The Wolfpack will now look forward to starting the fall of 2026 with a whole new roster as 5 of their 7 runners are sophomores and will be moving on. Good luck to the sophomores as they start the next part of their lives, and we look forward to the freshman returning to do great things next season.
