NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio - The Westmoreland County Community College volleyball team continued its season over the weekend with three competitive losses on the road.
The busy weekend began Friday night at Hocking College, as the Wolfpack dropped a 3-0 decision (25-16, 25-15, 25-17) to the Hawks. Samantha Duncan recorded five assists, six digs and a pair of kills in the loss, while Haley Maines had three kills and four digs, Jessica Williams recorded five blocks and Ashley Bish brought up seven digs.
On Saturday, Westmoreland traveled to Kent State-Tuscarawas for a tri-match. In the Wolfpack's first match, they took on WPCC rival Penn Highlands. The Black Bears squeezed out narrow wins in the first two sets at 25-19 and 26-24 before clinching the win with a 25-12 decision in the third set. Williams was solid at the net with four kills and three blocks, while Duncan passed out five assists and served three aces. Maines chipped in with three kills, Anna Rubino had a pair of kills and five digs, which matched the five digs Bish totaled.
In the final match of the day, the Wolfpack took on Kent State-Tuscarawas. After the Eagles nipped Westmoreland 25-21 in the opening set, the home team finished off a 3-0 win by winning the final two sets by identical 25-14 scores. Williams was big at the net again with seven blocks, while the back row defense was led by Bish with eight digs, Morgan Brown with seven and Rubino with six.
Westmoreland has a busy week ahead, beginning Tuesday with a road match at Penn Highlands beginning at 6 pm. The Wolfpack will then host the Black Bears on Thursday night and then host a tri-match with Penn Highlands and Kent State-Tuscarawas Saturday.
